Help! I can't get online!Picture_2.png

  • First, check your airport signal strength. Each building has a wireless network that your Mac will automatically find. The airport signal strength indicator is at the top right of your screen (looks like a fan, second from left).
    • If it is bold (or partly bold), you have adequate airport signal strength.
    • If it is gray, you have no airport signal strength.
      • Click on the indicator and select Turn Airport Off (this simply disconnects your laptop from the network); then, click on the indicator again and select Turn Airport On.
      • Restart your computer.

Help! I can't print!

  • Your Mac should automatically find printers in your building.
  • Try to select a different printer.
  • Go to File, Print
    • Click the down arrow next to the current printer.
    • Select a printer from the list.
    • If the printer you are looking for is not in the list, click Add Printer at the bottom of the printer list; locate the printer you want, then click Add.
  • Make sure you have a signal for an airport. If your signal is weak or you have no signal, follow the steps above.

Help! My application froze!

  • Occasionally, an application will become unresponsive, or "freeze".
  • Use Command - Option - Escape to activate Force Quit.
    • Choose the application to force quit.
    • When you force quit, you may lose change you have made to your document.

Help! I've connected to a projector but my laptop image isn't being projected!

  • Once you've connected your laptop to an LCD projector, you may have to tell your laptop to find the displays. Here's how:
  • Go to System Preferences and click on Displays; click Detect Displays.
  • Still won't work? Go back to System Preferences and Turn on Mirroring.
  • You can place a checkmark next to Show Displays in Menu Bar for quick access.

Help! I received a message saying that my email mailbox is getting full -- or I can't receive any email!

It's true, your email mailbox can get too full and then you can't receive any more messages. You need to periodically delete messages you no longer need. To "clean up" your email mailbox, follow these steps:

Using the Mail App (Postage Stamp icon in your dock):
  • Click on your Sent folder, use Command-A to select all, then click Delete.
  • Click on your Inbox and delete old messages that you no longer need.
  • Click on your Trash folder, use Command-A to select all, then click Delete.
  • Close the Mail app.
  • Open the Mail app.

OR:
If you are using Web mail:
  • Select messages you no longer want, then click Delete.

It's a good idea to go through your folders and delete unneeded emails. Periodically, empty your Sent folder and your Trash as outlined above.

What is the RSS Feed in my email? How do I get rid of it?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It's a way to electronically "subscribe" to services (news, etc.) to automatically receive notifications. Apple set up the "Apple Hot News" in the mail app so that you would receive notices about new Apple initiatives. Most of us don't read it and it does take up room in the account. Don't want it? Here's how to get rid of it:

  • Launch Mail App
  • Click on the RSS Feed Apple Hot News
  • Go to Mailbox, choose Delete Feed
